Making books digitally

Text: Tomáš Roman

It is the beginning of June and I can paraphrase the classic: “So the aluminium has moved from Těšín to Humpolec again…” Well, not quite yet, but we are now starting to produce part of our black and white production digitally without an aluminium printing press. We have a printing machine installed and also a finishing line for folding, cutting and extending the block. In addition, we have also started a gluing line for sealing the book block or finished booklets.

In particular, the Hunkeler Starbook GEN 8 finishing line, in our parlance DIGI-BLOK, is a state-of-the-art facility that is the first to be installed in Central and Eastern Europe.

At the moment it is the most powerful digital print processing equipment in the world. It can produce up to 2,000 books per hour with great precision, depending on the format, and processes paper at speeds of up to 250 m/min. The team of machinists who have been trained on the line under the guidance of a Swiss trainer is, in his words, excellent and very teachable.

So we will gradually increase the capacity to produce black and white production and support our grandmother rotary machines so that we have enough capacity for our customers in the season.

And lest I forget, we still have to install the cuttings and dust extraction from the germination line. For now, we have a workable temporary solution to deal with the waste.

And finally, a little riddle:

01000100

01001001

01000111

01001001

01010100

11000011

01001100

Whoever is the first to personally tell me what is hidden in this binary code gets a little reward from me.
