Professional training in our printing house: Investing in the future

Text: Lucie Římanová

Our company has long been cooperating with the Albrecht High School in Český Těšín in the field of vocational training of students in the field of Printer on printing machines. At the same time, for the second year already, pupils from the Secondary School of Technology and Services in Karviná and the Polytechnic Secondary School in Havířov have been visiting our printing plant.

Every even-numbered week, second- and third-year students visit our premises to work under the guidance of experienced printers. The students arrive for their practice early in the morning, as early as 6:00 am, and meet in their day room. Here, under the guidance of the master trainer, Mr Kopidol, they receive half an hour of vocational training based on their prepared activity cards. Mr Kopidol shows them instructional videos and explains in detail the different activities they will be performing that day. The students then move on to individual machines where they continue their practical training under the supervision of our experienced printers.

For the students, this practice is invaluable – not only do they get to test their theoretical knowledge in practice, but they also learn new skills right in the environment of a modern printing plant. The financial reward they receive for their work is an important motivation for the third-year pupils, and the company also pays for all the pupils’ lunches, which is further practical support during their apprenticeship.

New practice for students of Electricity field

At the end of October, in cooperation with the Secondary School of Technology and Services in Karviná and the Polytechnic Secondary School in Havířov, we launched an internship for students in the fields of Electrical Mechanic and Electrical Mechanic for Equipment and Devices. Currently, we have four third-year students and one second-year student. These students are involved in the maintenance and repair of machines under the supervision of our experienced colleagues from the maintenance centre, who impart the necessary skills and knowledge to them. The electrical apprenticeship presents a new challenge and opportunity for our company to expand our support for vocational training and help these students gain the experience needed for their future careers.

Look in the future

Our aim is not only to educate future printers and technicians, but also to inspire young people to see the value of work and the opportunities that technical and craft fields can offer them. We hope that our cooperation with the Albrecht School, the Secondary School of Technology and Services in Karviná and the Polytechnic Secondary School in Havířov will continue and that we will be able to attract more students who will find an interest in their future careers with us.

Student internships bring mutual benefits – students gain valuable experience and we meet young talented people who inspire us and enrich our working environment. We believe we will continue to help build the future of new generations while pushing the boundaries of our company.

And how do the students of the printing trade see it?

1. What have you found most interesting about being a printer so far?

Kristýna (3rd year): I am learnign new things every day with every day new job

Jiří (2nd year): I was interested in the fact that something different is printed every time and also how the processing of books can be different. I like that I can look through the books.

Patrik (2nd year): Working in a team.

Robin (Year 2): I was interested in other printing methods. I never expected printing to be such a chore.

2. What do you see as the advantages of in-company training compared to school-based training?

Kristýna: Thanks to my experience at FINIDR, I have a better chance of finding a job on the labour market. Compared to school, I can learn more about a job.

Jiří: We learn more in the company than in school.

Patrik: We can move around, help each other with our work and do what we enjoy, we learn a lot more here.

Robin: I see it as an advantage to meet new people, try out the machines and see production in process.

3. What is the hardest thing for you to learn?

Kristýna: Since I work on UV varnish spot printing, the hardest part is probably remembering what the buttons on the machine mean and adjusting the machine.

Jiří: The hardest thing for me is learning the technical names.

Patrik: Some activities take me a long time to learn.

Robin: It depends, some things I can learn right away, some things I can learn in a couple of days, but there are definitely some things I would have to learn for a couple of years.

4. Are you considering working in this company after graduation?

Kristýna: I plan to continue my studies after graduation. If my studies don’t work out, I would work here.

Jiří: I plan to finish my studies as a printer and then I will see.

Patrik: If I successfully manage to finish this studium, then yes, I hope I will.

Robin: I will think about it.
